Mountain Photos
Parys Mountain is a now disused pair of copper mines located near the town of Amlwch, on the north coast of Anglesey. Today there is a circular walk around the mountain, which offers some amazing views. On a clear day, you can see Ireland and behind that Scotland (often people mistake the land they can see to be the Isle of Man). The building you can see in the photographs are the remains of a five-sailed windmill. Below ground there are two mines, Parys Mine and Mona Mine.
The mountain appeared along side Amlwch Port in the first Series of the BBC's Restoration, and also provided the ideal filming location for Dr Who, although there is no mention of this in any of the official guides.
Directions: If heading to the mountain from the bridges, follow the A5025 signed Benllech, remain on the A5025, until you reach the Amlwch roundabout (there is a old petrol station forecourt on two sides of this roundabout). Take the first exit off signed B5111 Llannerchymedd, follow this road and the mountain car park is on the left hand side.
Further information about the mines and their history can be found in the Sail Loft, located in Amlwch Port. To get there, leave the car park by turning right and return to the roundabout. Take the exit signed Amlwch Port and then follow the brown signs displaying what appears to be a warehouse.
